This afternoon we had a delightful church picnic at Weston Park, Yarralumla. Clansi and I rode across on our bicycles, and on our way home around Lake Burley Griffin I was unsaddled by a rogue frisbee.
Not long after crossing the Scrivener Dam, Clansi was riding in front of me and our bright orange flying disc bounced out of her basket and landed directly under my front wheel. All of the right sorts of friction that keep a cyclist in control of their direction were undone in an instant, and I ended up rubbing the heel of my hands and an elbow rather hard on the pavement.
The good news is that all of these wounds should heal nicely. My first concern was in fact for my bike, which is barely 2 months old, but it seems to have been nicely cushioned. My cycling shirt, also quite new, suffered various injuries – and unlike my hands it will need some help to heal.
