Its less than 2 weeks till I fly over to Germany, and in our spare bedroom I’m starting to build a pile of things I need to take. Just this evening I bought a Eurail ticket for seeing a bit of Germany on the weekends before Clansi gets over there, and I have to admit that I’m getting quite excited.
I’ll be researching in Stuttgart for almost 4 weeks, and then once Clansi has joined me we’ll have an extra 2 weeks touring Europe. Our itinerary is essentially finalised, and it includes the following:
- Schloss Neuschwanstein, a “Cinderella” castle in southern Germany
- Zurich, where Zwingli led the Swiss Reformation
- The Glacier Express, a train across the Swiss Alps
- Zermatt, to ski under the Matterhorn
- Geneva, passing through
- Marseille, to have a peek at the Chateau d’If of Le Comte de Monte-Cristo fame
- Carcassonne, the medieval French city that inspired our favourite table-top game
- Paris, and its highlights
- Keukenhof, where the tulips should be just about at the height of flowering
- Leiden, where Helium was first liquified
- Sherwood Forest, the home of Robin Hood
- Bath, for some Roman history
- London, the seat of an empire
Quite a lot to pack into a fortnight, really!
