Potato Point CampThe last camp for the Canberra Pathfinder year was held on the weekend at Potato Point, a fantastic location on the South Coast. It proved a great opportunity for me to try out my 70-300mm lens on some wildlife.

Right on the beach, the campsite itself is covered with lush grass and so it is quite possible to keep sand and tents distinct. The grass is manicured and fertilised by a couple of mobs of kangaroos and wallabies, and the latter are very unperturbed by humans.

The photo that I spent a lot of time trying to get, and didn’t really succeed, was that of a bird just launching into flight. With a 300mm lens its possible to pull the birds in nice and close, but it is terribly difficult to keep a moving target in the frame!

I couldn’t resist the opportunity to take another stitched panorama, but ended up with my own shadow featured quite prominently. I still can’t work out if it is a feature or a detraction.
