Insulation has been added to the top and bottom of the chamber. The liquid remaining from the previous distillation experiment was distilled further with the new condenser. A total of nearly 1 L was collected, although this distillate was of a lower percentage ethanol and would not even burn.
The all-copper condenser worked very well, providing good heat transfer even with low coolant flow rates. The insulation on the top and bottom of the chamber reduced the amount of radiated heat significantly.
There is a small leak in the top solder joint of the condenser, and this should be fixed. Baffles or marbles in the distillation column might increase the quality of the yield, and should be tried.
